An empty home is the most expensive thing an owner can have. It is also the number a property manager is least likely to volunteer.
The figure
Today 390 of the 400 homes we manage are rented, which is 97.5 percent. Last year a vacant home took us eleven days to rent, counted from the day the old tenant returned the keys.
Why we show it
If the number gets worse, owners should hear it from us first, along with what we are doing about it. A manager who only reports good quarters is not reporting.
How to read it
Ask any manager for two numbers: homes empty today, and days to rent last year. Anything else is decoration.
